# Not an architect, engineer or law firm

YesPermit prepares residential building permit applications. Please read what that includes, and what it does not.

## We are not architects, engineers or attorneys

Our drawings are prepared for permit submission. They contain no structural calculations and are not signed or stamped by a licensed architect or engineer. When your city, your state or your project requires a licensed professional (for example for some decks and structures in high-wind or heavy-snow areas, or for tall retaining walls), we tell you. Nothing on this site or in your file is legal advice.

## The city decides

Only your city or county can approve or refuse a permit, and building officials may interpret a code differently. We never promise approval. ## Rules change

Codes and fee schedules change, and each city adopts and amends the model codes in its own way. Our guides cite official sources with the date we checked them. Before you build, rely on the rules of your own jurisdiction, which is exactly what your permit file researches for your address.

## HOAs and private rules

Homeowners association rules, deed restrictions and easements are separate from the city's permit. Your file includes an HOA request template; the HOA's decision belongs to the HOA.

## Building safely

You, or the contractor you hire, are responsible for building what the approved permit allows and for calling the inspections your city requires. Call 811 before you dig.
